In these experiments, additional pV isotherms are measured for CO2 both below and above the critical temperature with the same apparatus used in the program pV Isotherms of CO2: 1. As the temperature of the gas rises, the pV isotherm retains the same shape but is shifted upward on the graph because it has a larger intercept. However, at temperatures above the critical, the gas will not become a liquid and the large decrease in volume at high pressures will not be observed. When students plot all of the data on one graph, they can compare these differences in the pV relationship in the various temperature and pressure regions. (15 minutes)
