Gondwana Rainforest (02:25)

Lin Sutherland travels down the Daintree River. The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Sutherland meets Douglas shire mayor, Mike Berwick. He discusses the proposed logging of the rainforest in the 1970s. The rainforest generates $400 million a year in tourism.

Daintree Eco lodge (03:07)

Lin Sutherland joins a guided tour of the Daintree rainforest surrounding the Eco lodge. We learn about the healing properties of the tree sap and the forest dragon. Sutherland explores the Aboriginal artwork inside the main lodge and enjoys a massage.

Lin Sutherland and her guide, Jamie Beitzel, explore the waters of the Daintree rainforest and discuss the local fishing. They locate several crocodiles in the mangroves and on the shorelines.

Exploring the Rainforest (02:45)

Lin Sutherland is excited to see a male cassowary in the rainforest. Cassowaries are the only animals capable of distributing the seeds of more than 70 species of tropic trees. Sutherland rides a zip line through the rainforest canopy.

Parts of the Daintree Rainforest are subdivided and marked for development. David Cook shows Lin Sutherland blocks of land purchased by the Rainforest Rescue. Sutherland visits the Eco lodge Coconut Beach.
