Max is a therapy riding horse that helps Cora, who has ADHD and Asperger Syndrome. Cora’s parents found Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Center, where Cora met Max and formed a relationship. The program focuses on individual ability by providing an environment of challenge, enjoyment, and achievement.

Max’s Help (02:17)

Cora created a strong bond with Max. Riding horses helps build Cora’s core strength and fine and gross motor skills. Sitting on a horse improves symmetry and balance, coordination, circulation, breathing, and posture.

Cora Overcomes Fear (03:54)

Cora has an intense fear of heights, but since riding Max, she is no longer scared. The therapy horse is reliable, constant, and responds well to Cora. With her parents, Cora climbs to the top of Elora Quarry.

Therapy Dog Training (01:22)

Lego the Labrador is working on decompression training with his handler, Topper, who has autism. Lego notices a change in heart rate, and senses a change in behavior, so he calms Topper by lying on him. This releases hormones in Topper that bring down stress levels.

Fern and Bella (04:51)

Bella, a yellow Labrador service dog, helps Fern who has Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Bella helps Fern by performing tasks that most people take for granted and reduces Fern's pain with compression therapy.

Bella’s Skills (04:40)

Bella learns easily and quickly, and performs more tasks than she originally learned. Shopping is stressful for Fern because she has anxiety about touching. Fern goes to the farmer’s market for the first time in years with Bella.
