Mark Twain: Huckleberry Finn

One of the cornerstones of Americana, Huckleberry Finn has come under fire because of the language in which the runaway slave Jim is addressed. This program provides an excellent introduction to the book, examining the background against which it was written and drawing parallels between events in the book and the history of the period. Mark Twain was mildly sympathetic to the Southern cause in the Civil War, but he was—as Huckleberry Finn makes very clear—deeply opposed to slavery. It is, in fact, Twain’s championing of the individual concepts of honor and morality that makes this book so satisfying and so lasting a work. A Discovery University Production.
